Scientific Resources

Data Banks

  • PubMed

PubMed comprises approximately 20 million citations for biomedical literature from MEDLINE, life science journals, and online books. PubMed also provides access to additional relevant Web sites and links to the other NCBI molecular biology resources.

  • RCSB Protein Data Bank

The PDB archive contains information about experimentally-determined structures of proteins, nucleic acids, and complex assemblies. RCSB PDB also provides a variety of tools and resources. Users can perform simple and advanced searches based on annotations relating to sequence, structure and function.

Analysis Tools

  • NEBcutter

This tool will take a DNA sequence and find the large, non-overlapping open reading frames using the E.coli genetic code and the sites for all Type II and commercially available Type III restriction enzymes that cut the sequence just once.

  • IDT Oligo Analyzer

This tool gives the physical properties of the oligo sequence as well as the possible duplexes and their stabilities when oligo hybridizes to itself (self-dimerization). The results will show a complementary sequence, oligo length, GC content, melting temperature, extinction coefficient, molecular weight, ug/OD, and nmoles/OD.

  • EMBOSS Sequence Alignment Analyzer

This tool is used to compare two sequences along the whole length using needle or locally using water.
